Flagship Datasets

ADR UK flagship datasets are of significant research value and we anticipate will have wide appeal to researchers. This is integral to our mission to enable research that has the potential to lead to better informed policy decisions and more effective public services.

The flagship datasets are findable in the ADR UK Data Catalogue and available for all accredited researchers to apply to access via one of ADR UK’s trusted research environments. They have approved legal gateways for research and are publicly documented.

Education Wales

This dataset includes schools and pupil data for Wales which cover state funded learning centres. It contains information from the pupil level annual school census and the Welsh Examinations Database. This describes learning centres, outcomes for learners, special educational needs, attendance summary (prior to 2020), and free school meals.

Grading and Admissions Data for England

Grading and Admissions Data for England (GRADE) is a joint open data initiative by Ofqual, Ofsted, the Department for Education (DfE), and UCAS. Its main objective is to provide accredited researchers with access to data to conduct independent research on the educational, assessment, and admission systems in England, and to facilitate internal analysis.

Growing Up in England

ADR UK, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Department for Education (DfE) are working together to make better use of existing data about children and young people in England. The Growing Up in England (GUIE) dataset will enable a more comprehensive understanding of how factors such as household composition and geography shape outcomes.

Longitudinal Education Outcomes - England

The Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) dataset is a world-leading data product created by the Department for Education (DfE). It contains de-identified information on the characteristics, education, employment, benefits, and earnings of members of the British public.

Looked After Children - Wales

Looked After Children is a dataset provided by the Welsh Government. It contains information on children on care orders and in placements. Data also covers adoption from care and the number of children and young people leaving care.

Looked After Children Longitudinal Dataset - Scotland

This dataset brings together data of care placements and the legal basis for children being in the care of local authorities across Scotland. This allows understanding of changes in the patterns of care over time and geography, and the relationship with children’s characteristics including ethnicity, disability, and religion.

Ministry of Justice & Department for Education linked dataset - England

The MoJ-DfE linked dataset allows analysis to understand links between childhood characteristics, educational outcomes and (re)offending. The dataset includes data from Prison, Courts, Police National Computer, National Pupil Database, Looked-After-Children and Children in Need and covers variables such as demographics, offending data, school exclusions, and children in care.

Welsh Environment Dataset

This dataset contains household-level exposure to multiple aspects of the built environment. The availability of this data and the ability to link it together and to other secondary data sources presents a unique opportunity to gain further insight on identifying the most modifiable aspects of the built environment to inform local authority and government planners and work towards evaluations of interventions.
