Registration is now open for the Introduction to Administrative Data Research & Analysis course.
This four week online course (approx. 5-6 hours per week) is delivered by experts in the field of administrative data research and gives a full introduction to working with administrative data.
The course combines pre-recorded lectures (2-3 hours per week) and weekly hands-on practical exercises using R-Studio to analyse synthetic admin data. Support with weekly practical exercises is available during weekly scheduled virtual lab sessions, with experienced tutors available to answer questions.
Course topics include:
- introduction to administrative data and administrative data research
- legal and ethical contexts of admin data research
- the public license and public engagement
- understanding data provenance
- introduction to programming & data manipulation verbs
- record linkage
- data visualisation
- analysing administrative data - methods, issues and challenges.
This course was developed jointly by the Scottish Centre for Administrative Data, part of ADR Scotland, and the Scottish Longitudinal Study Development Support Unit.
When: This course will run online twice a year, in spring and autumn. The spring 2024 course will take place week beginning 26 February for four weeks.
Requirements: Experience of quantitative data analysis and preferably experience of using R.
