ONS Research Excellence Series
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is hosting the next Research Excellence Series talk of 2022, Involving the public with analysis of daily weekly and yearly cycles of birth. It will be delivered by Mary Newburn, Miranda Scanlon, Rachel Plachcinski and Alison Macfarlane.
The researchers’ goal was to reach a wide range of maternity service users to gain their perspectives on the creation of a newly linked dataset and the development of their research questions. Participants stated the study had potential to improve the safety and quality of maternity services.
The experiences and concerns of the maternity service users assisted the researchers to analyse the following phases of the study. The project has introduced members of the public to analysis of publicly available datasets, contributing to public confidence in data intensive research. This research project was one of the 2021 winners of the Research Excellence Award.
The talk will include a 45-minute presentation on this reasearch, followed by a Q&A session.
