This course from Datacise Open Learning offers a comprehensive introduction to text mining techniques for analysing unstructured administrative data. It is designed for individuals new to handling unstructured data, with a focus on transforming raw, free-text data into valuable insights that inform decision-making processes.
Learners will explore the full-text mining process, including data preprocessing, sentiment analysis, and the application of various text mining methods to extract and visualise meaningful insights from administrative datasets.
The course is delivered in partnership with the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing.

The course focuses on practical and hands-on learning. Learners will gain the skills and tools needed to interpret and report on administrative data effectively. This will be guided by real-world case studies from researchers at ADR Wales, Health Data Research UK Wales, and the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing.
This module aims to enable students to:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of real-world, unstructured, free-text administrative data
- Learn how text mining methods can be effectively applied to analyse qualitative administrative data
- Develop skills to interpret findings accurately and derive meaningful insights from unstructured free-text administrative data
- Explore techniques for uncovering patterns, trends, and correlations within unstructured administrative data through text mining.
