We are delighted to announce that the ECHILD – England dataset is now available for accredited researchers to apply to access via the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Secure Research Service. ECHILD stands for Education and Child Health Insights from Linked Data. The dataset can be used to answer policy-relevant research questions around the relationship between education and children’s health.

The Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) dataset provides policy-relevant insight on the educational pathways and labour market outcomes of members of the British public. In this blog, Dr Claire Crawford explores how new data linkages are expanding LEO’s potential. Claire leads an ADR England-funded project working in partnership with the Department for Education to support the development of the LEO data.

The Department for Education has made a new iteration of the Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) dataset available via the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Secure Research Service. This includes providing additional years of data and introducing exciting new linked datasets. This iteration will open up a host of new research opportunities for researchers using this data for the public good.

Dr Claire Crawford is from the UCL Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities, and is part of the Wage and Employment Dynamics project team. She has been studying the potential to link the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) dataset to administrative education data. The study has found that there would be significant appetite and value in linking ASHE to the Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) dataset.
