The Department for Education have published a new Areas of Research Interest (ARI) document setting out departmental research priorities and highlighting a number of education and linked datasets available for research use.
ADR UK Research Fellow Professor Iain Atherton has a fully funded PhD opportunity being advertised at Napier University: Using nationally representative data to understand the nursing and midwifery professions in the United Kingdom. The deadline is 31 May 2025.
The UK Government has pledged to create a National Data Library to “bring together existing research programmes and help deliver data-driven public services, whilst maintaining strong safeguards and ensuring all of the public benefit”. To ensure it meets the needs of researchers, wider input is needed.
The SafePod Network has launched SafePoint, a low-cost, scalable, and standardised safe setting for secure data access within approved research organisations. Building on the success of the ADR UK-funded SafePod Network programme, SafePoint has similar security controls to a SafePod, and provides localised, secure access to sensitive data such as those from the Office for National Statistics and the UK Data Service. Organisations can now apply to install SafePoint and enhance their data access capabilities for research.
