These findings are part of a series of analyses looking at those on the shielded list during the Covid-19 pandemic in Wales has been published by ADR Wales researchers based within Welsh Government. This analysis covers shielded patients’ access to private outdoor space during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in June 2020.
This analysis used anonymised linked data to estimate access to private outdoor spaces in households with a shielded person throughout Wales.
Ordnance Survey Greenspace data on access to private outdoor spaces was linked to the Shielded Patient List in Wales to estimate the number and percentage of shielded households and individuals with access to private outdoor spaces broken down by Local Authority. This is compared with non-shielded households.
This work was undertaken to help Welsh Government policy officials understand the circumstances of shielded people given the original guidance was that shielded people should not leave their homes, even for exercise.
