The Office for National Statistics Research Excellence Series is back: Featuring presenters from the ADR UK Conference 2023

The ADR UK Conference 2023, held in November in partnership with the ONS, brought together almost 400 delegates in Birmingham to exchange knowledge and ideas. Many presenters from the conference will join the series to discuss their public good research on a wide range of societal issues. This includes topics such as unpaid care, homelessness prevention, and data ethics.

The first event in the series is on Tuesday 19 March 10:30-11:30. Laura Bentley (Public Health Wales, Cardiff) will present on her popular study “Describing unpaid carers’ health service use in local areas across Wales: A retrospective cohort study using linked routinely collected data”. Her results provide novel insight into the health and health service usage of unpaid carers. Laura will discuss the data acquisition process, methodology, key findings, and the limitations of the research.

The second event on Thursday 18 April 10:30-11:30 features Professor Peter Mackie (School of Geography and Planning, Cardiff University), who was a keynote speaker for the conference. He will explore associations between school disengagement and homelessness, and problematise widespread assumptions about the ‘visibility’ of those who are at risk.
