6 January 2026
Join an in-person event at the Department for Education in London to learn more about using UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) data to better understand youth transitions. This event has been organised by the ADR England Research Community Catalyst: Youth transitions, and the ADR England-funded development of Longitudinal Education Outcomes data projects.
Why Attend?
UCAS data offers an unprecedented window into youth transitions and educational pathways across the UK. This event will provide an opportunity to see how administrative data is contributing to this area of social policy and learn from experts who are already using these resources to tackle vital questions about education and youth transitions.
This event is targeted at researchers interested in the importance of university admissions in youth transitions, education pathways, and social mobility.
What should I expect?
The day will be led by Professors Claire Crawford and Jake Anders from the UCL Centre for Education Policy & Equalising Opportunities and speakers will include:
- Members of the DfE’s higher education team
- Dr Angus Holford (University of Essex)
- Dr Oliver Cassagneau-Francis (UCL Centre for Education Policy & Equalising Opportunities)
- Dr Konstantina Maragkou (University of Cambridge).
Oliver and Konstantina are both ADR UK Research Fellows.
A light lunch will be provided.
Why administrative data?
Administrative data like UCAS records capture real-world behaviours and outcomes at scale, offering:
- Complete population coverage rather than sample limitations
- Longitudinal perspectives on individual journeys through education
- Rich detail about transitions, choices, and outcomes
- Opportunities to answer questions that surveys alone cannot address.
The team looks forward to welcoming you to this exciting showcase of the possibilities of harnessing administrative data for the public benefit research.
