Who we are
This project is co-funded by ADR England, Youth Futures Foundation, and the Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO).
It is led by the National Foundation for Educational Research, together with co-investigators at the University of Westminster, University College London, and FFT Datalab.
Jude Hillary: Principal Investigator
Jude is Co-Head of UK Policy and Practice at NFER, having previously worked as Senior Analyst and Head of Statistics at the Department for Education. Jude’s research interests include school systems and structures, school accountability and educational outcomes data.
Professor Peter Urwin: Co-investigator
Peter is a Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Westminster and has over 15 years’ experience leading large-scale econometric evaluations for government departments. Peter’s research has contributed to spending review submissions across departments, and his academic and policy work covers around 100 published outputs.
Professor Jake Anders: Co-investigator
Jake is Professor of Quantitative Social Science at the UCL Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities. Jake’s research focuses on better understanding the causes and consequences of educational inequalities, evaluating policies and programmes aiming to reduce these inequalities, and how best to do this evaluation.
Professor Claire Crawford: Co-investigator
Claire is a Professor of Economics in the UCL Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities and a Research Fellow of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Claire’s research focuses on the determinants and consequences of participation in childcare and education, for both children and their families.
Dave Thomson: Co-investigator
Dave is Chief Statistician at FFT Datalab, with over fifteen years’ experience working with educational attainment data to raise attainment in local government, higher education and the commercial sector. Dave’s current research interests include linking education and workplace datasets to improve estimates of adult attainment and study the impact of education on employment and benefits outcomes.
Alex Sutherland: Co-investigator
Alex is Chief Scientist and Director of Research and Evaluation at the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT). Before joining BIT, Alex was at RAND Europe for over five years, and spent three years teaching research design and quantitative methods at the University of Cambridge.
