By the end of the day, you will have gained:

  • Familiarity with the Data First programme, including the MoJ Areas of Research Interest 
  • Understanding of Data First criminal justice linked datasets
  • Hands-on training with synthetic datasets based on indicative research questions
  • An ability to navigate the ethical use of licensed data
  • Understanding of the procedures and submission forms necessary to access, analyse, and share findings from secure justice data
  • Awareness of the advantages and limitations of criminal justice administrative data
  • Access to programme resources and contacts.

This course is ideal for accredited researchers, or researchers looking to gain accreditation, who are interested in using administrative data to advance criminal justice research and policymaking. 

Course requirements

  • Attendees are required to bring their own laptops with their preferred software installed. The training providers will support queries related to SPSS, R, and Stata.
  • Participants must have had previous statistics training and/or statistics professional expertise.
  • All attendees must be registered with the UK Data Service. Please see further information on the UK Data Service registration page.
