Introducing the Project Accreditation Service for the Secure Research Service at ONS
Categories: Research using linked data, Datasets, Office for National Statistics
19 June 2025
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Research Accreditation Service (RAS) has been replaced by the Project Accreditation Service for users of the ONS Secure Research Service.
Accredited researchers using the ONS Secure Research Service (SRS) now use the Project Accreditation Service (PASS). This new service will be used to apply for and maintain projects.
Project accreditation for ONS SRS users: Introducing PASS
PASS allows users to:
- View a personalised dashboard of projects they are listed on
- Request changes to existing projects, including:
- Scope
- Additional data
- Extensions
- Adding or removing people or changing roles
- Closing a project.
- Receive clear status updates throughout the application process.
Researcher accreditation through the People and Projects Service
All PASS projects still require researchers to be fully accredited.
Researcher accreditation is now provided by the People and Projects Service (PPS).
The PPS is part of the Integrated Data Service (IDS) infrastructure and will service new researcher accreditations and accreditation renewals for users of all trusted research environments. Follow the guidance on the IDS website for information on how to apply for an IDS Hub account and become an accredited researcher, or how to renew your existing accreditation.
