ADR UK is pleased to announce that Dr Emma Gordon, Director of ADR UK, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Cancer Data-Driven Detection (CD3) programme. The £10 million UK-wide initiative aims to transform cancer prevention, early detection and diagnosis by securely linking and analysing large-scale health and administrative datasets.
Dr Emma Gordon has played a key role in shaping the programme from its earliest stages, working alongside Cancer Research UK, National Institute for Health and Care Research, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to bring together expertise in data, health research, and machine learning.
In her new role, she will support the board in guiding the programme’s scientific direction, ensuring that the work remains rigorous, ethical, and focused on improving outcomes for people at higher risk of cancer. Professor Cathie Sudlow will serve as Chair of the board, bringing complementary expertise in population health data and research leadership. Both will serve a two-year term, with the option of renewal.
About the programme
The CD3 programme is building the data infrastructure and analytical tools needed to identify individuals most at risk of cancer, helping clinicians tailor screening, prevention and diagnosis more effectively.
ADR UK is contributing in-kind support to the programme through a project in Wales that uses linked health and administrative data to explore cancer inequalities, understand patterns of screening, and identify groups who may benefit from earlier intervention.
