Find out more

The health of the public theme recognises that understanding the complex, multi-factorial health challenges of the 21st century requires a transdisciplinary approach that makes full use of the opportunities offered by the digital age. Students will work with diverse, large-scale data sources to investigate the social, environmental, biological and structural drivers of health, and develop interventions to improve population outcomes.

The deadline for applications is 17:00 on 5 January 2026.

What the programme offers

The health of the public theme is guided by the principle of training the next generation of transdisciplinary population health leaders. Students will develop epidemiological, quantitative and data science skills, alongside the ability to understand, intervene in and evaluate society’s most pressing public health challenges.

PhD students will receive a stipend and benefit from extensive training opportunities and access to research funds. The programme funds UK students and a limited number of international students.
